Premium Hiking Trails

Trail types of Premium Hiking Trails

The Hiking Certificate for Premium Trails is awarded to different types of hiking trails. All are judged according to largely the same criteria and are characterized by a high quality of experience. The hiking certificate stands for verified quality.

A distinction is made between the following types, which are featured with different symbols on this website:

Linear hiking trails

These trails offer several daily stages. The trail lengths range from about 30 to several hundred kilometers.

Circular hiking trails

In a half-daily to daily format, these trails, with a common starting and finishing point, offer hiking experiences of the highest standard.

Alpine Premium Hiking Trails

Alpine Premiumwege

Some Premium Hiking Trails are located in the high mountains. They are without climbing sections – though partly on exposed paths – and easy to walk on. However, the use of Alpine Premium Trails requires knowledge of the typical alpine dangers (e.g., altitude, steep slopes, rapid changes in weather). Good physical condition, surefootedness, a head for heights, and the appropriate equipment are required. Information is provided by the operators.

Winter hiking trails

Winter hiking trails

Winter hiking trails are certified as Premium Trails in winter with snow, and are only marked in winter.
